Pauline Daclin Labadie

About Pauline

Pauline is currently a PhD candidate in biocatalysis at Genoscope (CEA, France), where she explores the dynamic interface between chemistry and biology, as well as between fundamental and applied research. Her doctoral work focuses on the production of acrylic acid through the development of a novel bio-based pathway, at the crossroads of protein engineering and sustainable chemistry.

Originally trained in chemistry and biology before completing a Master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Nantes, she developed early in her academic journey a strong interest in protein engineering and biocatalysis. This naturally led her toward doctoral research, where she now designs and optimizes enzymatic systems to contribute to more sustainable chemical processes.

Curious and creative by nature, she is driven by the challenge of reshaping biological systems to unlock new reactivity. Beyond the lab, her imagination finds expression in various ways like fantasy literature and drawing. It is perhaps no coincidence that someone who enjoys imagining new worlds is equally drawn to redesigning enzymes and creating new catalytic possibilities.

Exploration, whether molecular or literary, remains a constant thread in her journey. She is passionate about discovering new things, from computational tools that may, or may not, become valuable allies in her research, to new cultures and perspectives experienced through travel across Europe, North America, and China. Closer to home, you can find her wandering through castles worthy of a fantasy saga, hiking along the Breton coast, or chasing wide horizons, from local sites to the vast landscapes of Canadian national parks.

Sport is another essential component of her balance and discipline, through running, swimming, and workout training, reinforcing the perseverance, rigor, and endurance that also shape her scientific work.
